General Description
Pale yellow solid or thick liquid with a faint odor of detergent. Mixes with water. Soap bubbles may be produced. (USCG, 1999)

Hazards

Reactivity Alerts
none
Air & Water Reactions
Water soluble.
Fire Hazard
Behavior in Fire: May produce irritating vapors. (USCG, 1999)
Health Hazard
In general, these chemicals have a moderate order of toxicity. Repeated skin contact with concentrated solutions may cause dermatitis. Ingestion may cause gastrointestinal irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. (USCG, 1999)
Reactivity Profile
Salts, basic, such as SODIUM ALKYL SULFATES, are generally soluble in water. The resulting solutions contain moderate concentrations of hydroxide ions and have pH's greater than 7.0. They react as bases to neutralize acids. These neutralizations generate heat, but less or far less than is generated by neutralization of the bases in reactivity group 10 (Bases) and the neutralization of amines. They usually do not react as either oxidizing agents or reducing agents but such behavior is not impossible.
Belongs to the Following Reactive Group(s)
